Walt’s Wonderland

24×36

Finally completely finished with this project! It’s been a long process but it was definitely worth it. 2016 marks 50 years since Walt passed away, so it only seemed fitting to surround him with 50 of his beloved characters.

Valentines Day

Some Bongo the bear Valentines Day mini paintings are coming your way! I’m thinking about making some prints or cards available on etsy💁🏼 are there any other couples you may want to see on a Valentine’s card or print?💕❤️💖

“Walts Wonderland”

Here is my newest project that I’ve been keeping sort of quiet about until now, I’ve had this in the development process for about 7 months now, you may remember seeing a glimpse of the background while it was being drawn out, but as with most of my paintings I like to let them develop in a long drawn out process so that each and every painting has unique flares about it that wouldn’t be there if I had just rushed and thrown them onto a canvas, for this painting the long process has everything to do with getting to know individual characters, and figuring out what each and every one would be doing while on the teacups, and then drawing them to resemble that exactly. It’s also the reason Walts eyes aren’t drawn yet, it’s hard to draw them just right, and let’s face it, Walt wouldn’t settle for anything less than perfect. I wanted to honor him in this painting-to-be by putting him in his natural habitat so to speak, in “Walts Wonderland” as it’s going to be called. What do you think? It’s still missing about 22-25 characters but I just wanted to give a much needed update😊🎨☕️💕

DVD-centric fan art show!

So I’ve been terribly busy the past few weeks and absent from my site so I apologize. But I’ve been busy because a couple weeks ago I found out about an art show in honor of Dick Van Dyke’s 90th birthday, so I’ve been working tirelessly to submit a piece for the event and I just finished, and submitted my painting yesterday and it’s been approved and will be in the art show! It is October 2nd and 3rd at the Malibu Playhouse if anyone is interested check out the Facebook page for it*. I can’t tell you how excited I am to actually have my art by included in any art show and above all in honor one of my favorite actors? It’s surreal. So here is my submission for the show, I’ll hopefully have a few prints for sale and I believe the original will possibly be up for auction I’m not sure on that yet though.

Sneak Peek!

So I haven’t been posting many new art pieces because I’ve been on vacation, and still am for another week. But I couldn’t help but start sketching out some painting ideas that I’ve had bouncing around in my head for a while and I couldn’t help but start the sketching phase so when I return home I can start working on the actual painting process right away! So here’s a little sneak peak into some of the magic coming your way😉✨

This is just an extremely rough sketch of the lake I’m staying at (it might look strange and sort of lame now but it’s a gorgeous view!and yes this particular painting will be non-disney)

This will be on a 6×8″ mini canvas panel that I bought a pack of for giveaway projects and “artist droppings”** (this will NOT be an artist dropping!). For this particular panel I’m sketching out Sarah and Leo from Thingamavlogs, you may have seen them on YouTube before or wandering Disneyland, in this piece they will be in their favorite Disneybound dressed as Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers with a few of their little critter friends hanging out with them! Ps her face is covered because showing that wouldn’t be accurate at all, my sketch to paint process changes a lot so it looks nothing like it will.

This final piece I haven’t decided on the final size yet because I’ll be adding a TON of detail and this is only a minor section of the overall sketch(which obviously isn’t finished yet) but hopefully any of you avid Disneyland goers will be able to figure out where this will be☕️

**artist droppings will be small paintings of characters or park scenery whichever I end up choosing, they will be 6×8″ and whenever I go to the parks I might just drop these in random spots around so keep an eye out!👀 (I’m not absolutely positive on this idea so I would love any feedback on whether or not you guys want that to happen, in order for it to happen I need to know there’s actually a demand for that sort of thing💁🏼)

Artist Beginnings

Last year around Christmas time I began painting on canvas for the first time. I had no idea what I was doing, I used acrylics (now that I’ve used oils there’s no going back) and I rushed the whole process. Other artists use acrylics and their pieces look AMAZING, but let’s face it my experience with them was less satisfactory. First of all my experience before this can be summed up in a pack of crayola watercolors when I was a kid because I literally never had much of an interest in painting because I never really felt I had much control over the brush as opposed to a pencil where my imagination could run wild. Anyways, my first canvas painting was of Sleeping Beauty castle at Disneyland, I drew it out and transferred it to canvas and painted the whole thing in only 2 days. Now that may not sound too bad but I was so rushed for Christmas that it came out looking horrendous. But it was a learning experience and one that sparked my interest and I fell in love with painting after that. So here are a few sketches from my pre-canvas days and of course the painting that started it all, even if it isn’t the best thing I’ve done so far.

I sketched this out during Halloween time for fun and as you can see in the top right hand corner my cat found it tasty.

Mushu, Peter and Flounder were just some doodles I did in one of my classes in high school. (Oops)

And here is my first canvas painting, you can see why I decided to switch to oil painting, but it was my first try and it was rushed. I definitely want to paint the castle again sometime soon, obviously taking more time on it and using oil paint as my medium. But there you have it, that’s a glance at my first steps into my newfound world of art. Have a magical day!

More Paintings coming your way!

Hey everyone! So, I have another huge piece in the making, but it will take an extremely long process due to the detail and uniqueness and let’s face it, size of this project! So in the mean time I want to also do smaller sized paintings as well so I don’t end up being excessively frustrated at my main project. So that being said, are there any characters or movies you would like to see represented? Let me know! I’m not accepting ideas but if you suggest a character, movie, attraction, or show from the parks I would love to work on an adaptation to add to my portfolio that I’ll be submitting to Disney soon! Thanks for your time! I’ll have a contact page up soon but feel free to comment your opinions!

Have a magical day! -Sarah Marie
